Château Barbebelle

Château Barbebelle is a family vineyard of the Herbeau family, located in Rognes, less than 20 km northwest of Aix-en-Provence — the former capital of Provence. It is one of the oldest estates in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, with traces of agriculture on this site dating back to Roman times. Today, the vineyard is managed by family heiress Madeleine and her husband Valentin — he oversees the work in the vineyards, while she handles strategy and brand development. Provence in a glass — Barbebelle terroir The estate comprises 45 hectares of vineyards surrounded by cypresses, pines, holm oaks, and olive groves. Clay-limestone soils retain moisture well, the rocky terrain ensures ventilation, and an average altitude of 370 meters above sea level guarantees cooler nights even at the height of summer. The climate is complemented by the mistral — a strong, dry wind from the north that naturally cleanses the grapes of moisture and reduces the risk of fungal diseases. The vineyard is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the environment. Kingdom of rosé wine Over 75% of Château Barbebelle's production consists of rosé wines — the hallmark of Provence. The grape varieties cultivated include grenache noir, syrah, cinsault, cabernet sauvignon, vermentino (known locally as rolle), grenache blanc, and sauvignon blanc. The combination of these varieties with Provençal terroir produces wines with a fresh, fruity character.
