Linkwood 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, the only official bottling of the Linkwood distillery under its own name. This release from the Flora & Fauna series features a swan on the label, in tribute to the swans living by the neighbouring reservoir; it is the distillery's only official bottling, as almost all of its production goes to blending houses, which hold its character in high regard. The whisky is bottled at 43% ABV.

The distillery lies on the outskirts of Elgin in the heart of Speyside. This is a fruity and floral whisky from the banks of the River Lossie, near Elgin, a classic example of Linkwood single malt. Linkwood, situated just south of Elgin, dates back to 1821, making it one of the region's more historic distilleries; it was officially founded by Peter Brown and rebuilt in the 1870s by his son William Brown. Scottish Malt Distillers took control in the early 1930s, bringing Linkwood into the organisation that would later become Diageo. Linkwood has long been prized by blenders, with the vast majority of its production going into Diageo's Johnnie Walker and White Horse blends.

Linkwood's character rests on the lightness and purity of its spirit. It is a lighter, aromatic Speyside malt, shaped by clear wort, long fermentation and slow distillation. Linkwood uses unpeated malted barley sourced from Diageo's central maltings, such as Burghead and Roseisle. Twelve years of maturation in oak allow complexity to develop without the wood becoming overly dominant.

On the nose, the whisky opens fruity and floral. Aromas of vanilla and fresh fruit interweave with notes of cigar box, cloves, lavender, dried orange peel and green stems. The palate is sweet and viscous, with nutty-cereal notes, soft orchard fruit, citrus and cedar wood that carry through into the finish. The texture is mouth-filling, silky and medium-bodied; overall sweet and viscous, yet fresh and clean, sustained by a pleasant acidity. Cedar notes appear on the finish, which is long.

The complete Flora & Fauna collection comprises 26 expressions released over the years, some of which have been discontinued and have become objects of collector interest. The name "Flora & Fauna", referring to the animals and plants depicted on the individual labels, is credited to the whisky writer and critic Michael Jackson.
