Stumbras Distinct Winter Wheat is a Lithuanian vodka from the grain family, made exclusively from winter wheat and bottled at 40% ABV. It belongs to the DISTINCT line – a separate Stumbras series in which each product has its own distinct character and style stemming from its individual origin, with the vodkas created from expressive, original raw materials such as carefully selected winter wheat or new potatoes.
Behind the product stands the Stumbras distillery from Kaunas. Stumbras was founded in 1906 in Kaunas, Lithuania's second largest city, and the brand declares that its production methods have remained essentially unchanged since its founding. The raw material itself comes from organic cultivation – the vodka is distilled from wheat grown on an organic farm in Lithuania.
In the case of the Winter Wheat variant, the producer places emphasis on the purity of the spirit. This is a vodka with a light and delicate taste, an ultra-clean and smooth texture, distilled five times and made from carefully selected winter wheat. Across its wider range, Stumbras also employs multi-stage filtration: the spirit passes through sand, charcoal and silver filters, and then through a linen filter – a technique the distillery describes as characteristic of Lithuania.
Grain dominates the sensory profile. The IWSC competition assessment noted that the nose reveals warm, inviting notes of wheat that carry over onto the palate, with the whole being aromatic, well composed and with a solid finish. This is a vodka built around a gentle, grainy sweetness, without any harsh alcoholic burn.
In keeping with Lithuanian tradition, Stumbras vodkas are served chilled. They are classically served at 5–10ºC in a vodka glass. Good pairings include smoked salmon, herring in oil or dark rye bread with butter, which harmonise with the grainy character of the spirit.
