Veuve Clicquot Rich On Ice is a champagne from the Champagne appellation created in a sweet style and intended to be served over ice. It is a contemporary interpretation of champagne from the house in Reims. Veuve Clicquot is a brand from Reims founded in 1772, with over 250 years of winemaking heritage.
The blend is based on three Champagne grape varieties. The Rich blend is made from Pinot Noir (50%), the main pillar of Veuve Clicquot winemaking, which gives the champagne its fundamental structure, a significant share of Meunier (30%) provides roundness to the blend, and Chardonnay (20%) rounds out the whole with additional freshness. The cuvée is created from 50–60 crus and contains 40–45% reserve wines. Its defining feature is a high level of sweetness: the uniqueness of Rich lies in the dosage of 60 g/l, which enhances the aromas of the blend.
Fruit dominates the profile. The RICH cuvée combines fruity, gourmand flavours, with exotic pineapple and mango brightened by pear and cool notes of lemongrass and verbena. The elevated sweetness and greater share of Meunier shift the character towards ripe, juicy fruit, while preserving the freshness brought by Chardonnay.
The way it is served sets this champagne apart from classic brut cuvées. Rich comes into its own most fully when served over ice or well chilled to 4°C. The serving ritual at the house of Veuve Clicquot involves filling the glass halfway and gently adding an ice ball. The producer states an ageing potential of 3 years and more.
As for food pairings, Rich pairs best with mango, pineapple or seasonal white fruits, sweet-and-savoury cuisine and spicy dishes, such as vegetable curry. The alcohol content is 12%.
