Caparzo

Caparzo is one of the most recognizable wineries in Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. It belongs to Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who under the Caparzo label manages three Tuscan estates: the eponymous Caparzo, Borgo Scopeto and Doga delle Clavule.

Caparzo Vineyards in Montalcino

The estate spans 200 hectares, of which 90 hectares are vineyards on soil composed of a mixture of shale and sandstone. The varieties cultivated are sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, merlot, colorino and chardonnay.

Caparzo is considered one of the first wineries to understand and learn to harness the influence of terroir on the character of wine. From this knowledge came Brunello di Montalcino Vigna "La Casa" (since 1977) and Rosso di Montalcino Vigna "La Caduta" (since 1991) – single vineyard wines from individual, outstanding parcels.

Three estates, three regions of Tuscany

Caparzo (Montalcino) – produces Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Rosso di Montalcino, as well as Sangiovese and Chardonnay IGT Toscana and Grappa di Brunello and Grappa Riserva spirits.

Borgo Scopeto (Chianti Classico) – an estate in the southern part of the Chianti Classico region, represented by Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, the super Tuscan Borgonero and Vin Santo del Chianti Classico.

Doga delle Clavule (Maremma) – the youngest of the estates, purchased in 2001, representing the Maremma di Toscana region through Morellino di Scansano and Vermentino.
