The Marayo brand was created in 2010, based on Pedro Merayo's lifetime experience and grapes from his old vineyards. The winery is located on the family estate Miramonte, near the city of Ponferrada. Equipped with modern equipment and the latest technology, it allows for the creation of excellent wines. It is surrounded by 10 hectares of vineyards, divided into five separate plots with different characteristics. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, and the latest technologies are used in wine production, including modern stainless steel vats. Although wine production under its own brand began less than seven years ago, Merayo is today a significant producer in the region. The Bierzo region is situated in the northwestern part of Spain and is characterized by an exceptional and unique microclimate. On one hand, we have high humidity and abundant rainfall similar to Galicia, while on the other hand, much in common with the hot and dry climate of Castile. The low altitude above sea level protects the region from spring frosts and ensures that grapes ripen about a month earlier than in Castile. The average annual temperature is 12°C (with a winter minimum of 3.5°C and a summer maximum of 24°C). Wines produced in this appellation must be limited to the following varieties: Red: Mencia, Alicante Bouschet, and experimentally Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. White: Dona Blanca, Godello, Palomino and experimentally Malvasia, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.
