The first release in the limited Sinteis whisky line. The name of the new series comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for synthesis. This first edition is a single malt whisky distilled in 2014, matured in virgin oak casks made from Chinquapin oak and in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The Chinquapin oak casks lent the whisky notes of sweet spices and aniseed, while the Pedro Ximénez sherry casks added aromas of ripe fruit and dark chocolate. The casks were hand-selected by GlenAllachie distillery owner Billy Walker. The whisky has been bottled at its natural strength of 57.8%, in its natural colour and without chill filtration. The packaging catches the eye with a hand-drawn symbol depicting the combination of many types of wood. On the nose we find aromas of liquorice, creamy fudge, grilled honeycomb, candied fruit, cocoa and molasses. On the palate it is rich and expressive, with discernible notes of ginger, creamy fudge, chocolate and candied lemon slices, followed by fig jam, blackberries and molasses. The finish is long, with hints of cinnamon and rich notes of cocoa.
