Talisker 30 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye, bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.5% – the 2024 edition. Talisker is the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye, operating and creating "Made By the Sea" whisky since 1830. The distillery was founded on the island's rugged coastline, making it the oldest working plant on Skye. The brand is run by Diageo, and its distinctive profile of pepper and smoke remains the distillery's hallmark.
The spirit matured for three decades. The whisky rested in American oak casks and was bottled at cask strength of 49.5%. The edition was produced in a very limited number of bottles. Only 2,610 bottles of Talisker 30 were released worldwide.
On the nose and palate, fruit meets smoke and pepper. The official tasting notes point to apple, stone fruits and spices on the nose, followed by smoke, green chilli pepper, sweet pecan, embers of a bonfire and a delicate saltiness on the palate. Industry reviewers describe the mature, maritime character of this vintage. After three decades in American oak casks, the whisky carries sweet smokiness and sea air; the nose reveals white pear, Golden Delicious apple, ground black pepper and a hint of grilled fish skin, while the palate is silky and slightly oily, with honey, nectarine, vanilla custard, candied orange, sweet oak, salt and pepper interwoven with wisps of smoke. The finish closes with sweet oak, gentle pepper and grilled fruit.
The producer itself describes the style of this expression as balanced. Talisker 30 is elegant and complex, with the classic Talisker traits – pepper and smoke – captured in a gentler, more subtle form. Three decades in oak have smoothed the rawness of the young distillate, leaving a maritime core and a spicy structure.
