Alvarez y Diez Alvarez y Diez is a Spanish winery specializing exclusively in white wines, founded in 1941 by Modesto Alvarez Romero and Eladio Díez Ossorio. In 1977, ownership passed to the de Benito family, but the name was retained as a tribute to the founders. Since 1992, the winery has been run by the second generation of the family – brothers Juan and Álvaro de Benito. Rueda – the kingdom of the Verdejo variety Alvarez y Diez has 100 hectares of its own vineyards cultivated using sustainable agriculture. The high temperature amplitude between day and night ensures good grape ripeness while maintaining the balance between sugar and acidity – a key factor in white wine production. The dominant variety is Verdejo – a grape with a history dating back to the 11th century, when Alfonso VI was King of León and Castile. Verdejo produces aromatic wines with distinct fruity notes, crisp acidity, and a delicate bitterness in the finish. The second important variety is Sauvignon Blanc. How Alvarez y Diez wines are made Most Alvarez y Diez wines ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature below 17°C – such a low temperature helps preserve freshness and fruity character. The exception is Fermentado en Barrica – a wine fermented in oak barrels, which gives it greater complexity and a fuller structure.
