Basmoon vodka is a Premium-class spirit. It is produced in an artisanal manner, using traditional methods, and distilled five times. Created from Basque potatoes, it is prized all over the world for its high quality. The potatoes used in its production are hand-pressed in order to obtain maximum flavour and aromatic qualities. As a result, a delicate sweetness on the palate balances the natural taste and character of the spirit. The recipe for producing Basmoon was passed on to the family by an Italian partisan during the turmoil of the war, and since then it has been handed down from generation to generation. And now from the beginning… at the start there must be a potato, and not just any potato. Special, local varieties with an elevated starch content. Why special? Because potatoes generally have a several times lower starch content (15–20%) than the grain from which vodka is usually made (60–75%), and only those varieties with the highest starch share must be selected. The potatoes are then shredded and mashed. This process yields a wort, which, after the addition of yeast, undergoes fermentation. After fermentation we obtain an alcohol of around 8%, which awaits the next stage, namely distillation. Once it has been repeated five times, we obtain a spirit with an alcohol content of over 90%, which is then diluted, stabilised for several weeks and bottled. All in all, it is a very boutique production, and the vodka that results is remarkable. Very harmonious, with strongly perceptible sweet notes in both aroma and taste. Excellent for savouring, good for pairing with food, and — thanks to its packaging in an elegant wooden box — perfect as a gift.
