Casamigos Blanco is a blanco-category tequila from the Mexican state of Jalisco, produced from 100% Blue Weber agave. It is the foundation of the brand's entire range, bottled without any ageing in wood. Casamigos uses 7–9 year old Blue Weber agave sourced from the rich, clay-like soil of the Jalisco highlands in Mexico. The agaves are hand-selected for quality.
The brand was founded in 2013 by friends – George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman – and in 2017 it passed into the hands of the Diageo group. The agave piñas are roasted in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours, whereas most producers steam them for 7 hours, and the distinctive profile is the result of an 80-hour fermentation, compared with an average of 48 hours. The brand's master distiller uses a special yeast blend that delivers a consistent, refined flavour.
After double distillation, the spirit does not go into barrels. The Blanco rests in stainless steel vats before bottling, which allows the profile to open up and even out. This stage lasts two months. The result is a crystal-clear spirit bottled at 40% ABV.
The profile is dominated by pure fruit and agave. The nose offers notes of citrus and sweet agave, while the palate is fruity, with hints of vanilla and grapefruit. The result is a crisp, clean tequila in which the pure flavour of agave takes centre stage. It works well both neat and as a base for cocktails such as the margarita or paloma.
