The Palm by Whispering Angel 2020 from Château d'Esclans is a dry rosé wine from Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, made in the pale, light-pink Provençal style. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 54% Grenache, 19% Syrah and 14% Cinsault, bottled under screw cap with an ABV of 12.5%.
The wine is produced at Château d'Esclans, an estate located in the Var Department, in the heart of the Provence rosé-producing region. Sacha Lichine acquired Château d'Esclans in 2006; today the estate comprises 44 hectares of vineyards. The main grape variety cultivated at the estate is Grenache, and the property is renowned for its old vines of this variety, which yield fruit of greater flavour concentration than younger plantings. The Palm sits in the producer's range as a more accessible variant alongside the flagship Whispering Angel.
In the glass, the wine presents a pale-pink colour with greenish reflections. The nose is fairly complex, with an interplay between fruit and a dry note, while the flavour profile is reminiscent of white wine – with white peach, lemon, lime, blossom and elderflower, while the cherry finish reveals its rosé character. The aromatic freshness on the nose is accompanied by more subtle, fruity notes on the palate, all crowned by a crisp finish of perceptible length and roundness.
This is a ready-to-drink wine, light and crisp in style. Cherry, white peach and citrus build a profile suited to light Mediterranean dishes, salads, fish and seafood.
