Vidigal is a family winery from central Portugal, founded in the early 20th century. One of the most recognizable Portuguese wine companies in the world, exporting wines to over 30 countries, with production reaching approximately 3 million bottles annually. History of Vidigal The winery was founded in the early 20th century and for nearly a hundred years changed owners several times, until it was purchased by António Mendes Lopes in the 1990s. Drawing on nearly 40 years of experience in the wine industry, he heavily invested in the winery's equipment. From the beginning, António focused on export – one of his wines was the best-selling wine in Norway for five consecutive years, which is an unprecedented situation, as never before had a Portuguese product been the leader of an international category in any country in the world. Vidigal Vineyards In addition to his own vineyards located mainly near Lisbon, António collaborates with farmers from other regions of Portugal: Douro, Dão, Beiras, Alentejo, and Vinho Verde. In total, the vineyards used for producing Vidigal wines cover approximately 450 hectares. The main varieties are touriga nacional, aragonez (tinta roriz), castelão, syrah, and cabernet. Most wines have a fresh and fruity character, and António's main goal is to produce the best possible wine for the lowest possible price – Vidigal wines stand out for their excellent price-to-quality ratio and are very friendly and easy to drink.
