The name Karukera, in literal translation from the Indian language, means the island of beautiful waters. This is how the people of Guadeloupe called and presented their country to the world. This stems from the beautiful terrain of this island, rich in numerous waterfalls and hot springs. Karukera production takes place from start to finish on the St. Mary of Marquisat estate, under the watchful eye of Gregoire Hayot, who continues his family's traditions with great passion. The distillery on this site has been operating since 1895 and is the oldest distillery in Guadeloupe. The sugar cane plantation is located right next to the distillery, which guarantees supplies of the highest quality and freshness. Agricole is a French term defining a type of rum produced through the distillation of fresh sugar cane juice, rather than from molasses as is the case with most rums in the world. Agricole-type rums currently represent only 3% of rums produced worldwide.
