STUMBRAS VODKA is a Lithuanian grain vodka from the distillery in Kaunas, instantly recognisable thanks to the natural, ripe ear of wheat placed inside every bottle. It comes in a 0.7 l bottling at 40% ABV, in a gift carton with glasses.
The brand was created at a specific moment – STUMBRAS VODKA was introduced to celebrate the centenary of the STUMBRAS distillery. The producer itself has a long pedigree: Stumbras was founded in 1906 in Kaunas, Lithuania's second-largest city.
The base is grain spirit made from wheat grown on an organic farm. What distinguishes this producer is the multi-stage filtration process: the vodka is distilled from wheat sourced from an organic farm and then subjected to multi-stage filtration through sand, charcoal and silver filters, before being passed through a linen filter – a technique the distillery describes as characteristic of Lithuania. The bottle's signature feature is not merely decorative: a natural, ripe ear of wheat is placed by hand in every bottle, serving as a visual signature and a nod to the raw material.
Grain leads the flavour profile. STUMBRAS VODKA has a silky, mellow character dominated by the natural sweetness of wheat grain, with a light citrus accent and soft, earthy notes. The texture owes everything to the filtration: the multi-stage process gives a clean, smoothed structure with no harsh burn. The aroma remains restrained – the vodka is crystal clear, with a gentle bouquet.
The producer recommends serving the vodka traditionally chilled to 5–10ºC, in a shot glass. Dishes from the Baltic tradition make excellent pairings: smoked salmon or gravlax, marinated herring and dark rye bread with butter, whose earthy character harmonises with the grain note.
